Obituary

Tom finished his life's work and left this life in peace in the present of his greatest joys, his wife, and his family on February 10, 2021.

He was born on April 25, 1934 in his aunt and uncle's farmhouse north of St. Lawrence, SD.  Tom attended St. Lawrence School with his one brother and three sisters.  In March 1950 he lost his father, he was just a sophomore at the age of 16.  With the loss of his father, he was now in charge of the family farm with his Mother and Uncles.  In 1951 he met the love of his life, Janet Wilson.  He would visit and woo her while she worked at her mother's Café in St. Lawrence.  After a year of courtship, they married on October 18, 1952.  With this union came five children, Delton, Marlene, Brenda, Charlie, and Deb.  Tom found work as a young husband and father in Nebraska with the oil fields.  Tom then moved with his family to Rapid City in May of 1960.  He was able to find work with Joe Adams working as a concrete laborer.  Tom only worked with Joe for a year and half before he bought the business, and it became Snyder & Sons.  Tom taught his sons the trade and they worked many years together.  Tom continued in the field he loved, concrete, especially foundations.  In his 67-year career, Tom has laid the foundations for most of Rapid City, surrounding towns, and states.  He has left his hard work and sweat to last… forever.  Tom's loves in life included family, the outdoors, gardening, and old westerns.  He shared this passion for hunting and fishing with everyone, friends, and family, especially his grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father; two sisters and one brother; son, Delton Snyder; and two grandsons: Charlie and Casey.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Janet Wilson Snyder; one sister, Betty Sperecker; his children: Marlene Reed, Brenda Voorhees, Charlie Snyder, and Deb Harper; his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and all who loved him.
