IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy John
Bray
November 19, 1952 – June 5, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Timothy John Bray announces his passing on June 5, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Tim was born on November 19, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Robert Ralph Bray and Phyllis Jane (Resewehr) Bray.
Tim was raised in Sioux Falls with a family of brothers, and finally a little sister. He was known as the wild brother, and rode his motorcycle up the Washington High School steps into the building on a dare. It started a long love of NASCAR racing, which he did up until his final days on the couch with the steering wheel his son Casey bought him.
Tim had an earlier marriage to which he had two children, Heather and Jeremy. He met the love of his life, Sondra Lynn Wolf and they married February 3, 1985 on a freezingly cold day at Stavkirke, Chapel in the Hills of Rapid City. Tim and Sondra had three children, Casey, Tanner and Megan.
The family moved to Rapid City in 1997. Tim worked a variety of jobs and then found his calling with Western SD Juvenile Services Center (JSC), where he worked for the Pennington County Sheriff's office for 16 years, including up to his final days. There he was affectionally know as MacGyver as he could fix anything in the building.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, father-in-law, Harold Wolf, and brother-in-law Dale Copeland. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sondra, his mother-in-law, Marcelle Wolf (Rapid City, SD), and his five children, Heather Ann (Sioux Falls, SD), Jeremy John (Sioux Falls, SD), Casey Leroy (Rapid City, SD), Tanner Robert (Rapid City, SD), Megan Lynn and partner Adrien Merklein (Littleton, CO), and one beautiful granddaughter, Kayleigh Marie, who always called him Grandpa Dollars.
Tim also has several living siblings, Robert (Bobby Tom) and Donna Bray (Sioux Falls, SD), Jeffrey Bray (Sioux Falls, SD), Richard and Laura Bray (Chanhassen, MN), Jane and Rodney Carpenter (Palm Desert, CA), multiple nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Kim Marie (LeRoy) Weimer (Rapid City, SD), Michele Copeland (Rapid City, SD) and her daughter, Macy Quinn.
A Life Celebration will be held Saturday, June 10, from 4:00-6:00 pm, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
