Obituary

RAPID CITY- Tom H. Gilliland, 62, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at home surrounded by family.

He was born February 18, 1956 in Dickinson, ND to Robert and Dorothy (Hagen) Gilliland.

On August 1, 1987 Tom and Deb (Deisch) were married in Rapid City.

After retiring from Bierschbach Equipment in the Fall of 2016, he and Deb took an Amtrak train trip to Portland, Oregon. This was a kick-off for future travels. He spent the next year traveling with Deb, visiting family in California and Seattle, visiting their daughters in Omaha and Cheyenne, and being a grandparent. Their biggest, and last, great adventure was a visit to 7 national parks throughout the summer of 2017. One bucket-list item Tom was able to cross off his list was attending the NCAA College Basketball Sweet Sixteen tournament in Omaha in March 2018. Often times, their trips to Cheyenne were spent cheering on the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles volleyball team. When he wasn't traveling, he was most likely found in his "Bear's Den" watching the Chicago Bears or Boston Red Sox - depending on the season.

Tom will be remembered as a sweet gracious man; the same man his family has known and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Bobbi Miller; and brother in law, Ernie Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Deb, Rapid City; daughters: Maggie (Austin) Albers, Cheyenne, WY; Ally (Brett Bennett) Gilliland, Omaha, NE; grandson, Emmitt Albers; brother: Jay (Carol) Gilliland, Missoula, MT; nieces: Michelle Miller- Lingle, Bismarck, ND; Erica Ashman, Seattle, WA; nephew: Jay Bob Gilliland, Seattle, WA; And many other loving relatives.

Tom's family would like everyone to know how thankful they are for all of the prayers, kind messages, and support they received throughout this difficult time. As they celebrate his life, please know that not one kind message has gone unnoticed.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with services at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating.

A memorial has been established at Hospice of the Black Hills. The family plans to honor Tom with a memorial brick as well as make a monetary gift with any memorial money received.
