RAPID CITY- Tommy A. Whittecar, 71, Rapid City, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born September 12, 1939 in Mitchell, SD to Dale R. and Lola B. (Wilson) Whittecar. He attended school at White Lake and graduated from White Lake High School in 1957. He entered the United States Air Force in 1958 and discharged in 1962. In 1966 he entered the United States Navy and was discharged in 1968 receiving the Bronze Star. He then moved to Rapid City where he worked for the Rapid City Police Department for eleven years and then worked for Tri Mac Trucking for 30 years until retirement in 2003 with over two million miles accident free. He is survived by one son Chad (Kerri) Whittecar, Wasilla, AK; one daughter, Christa (Robert) Spillmann, Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Douglas Whittecar, Seattle, WA; five sisters: Faye Messer, Rapid City; Ruth Ann (Dennis) McCormick, Blair, NE; Judy (JB) Webb, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Mag (Dennis) Hall, Lake Stevens, WA; Nancy (Richard) Smith, Everett, WA; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Barbara, and one brother, Bill. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, at Calvary Lutheran Church with Chaplain (Ret.) Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military Honors will be provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans and the Boy Scouts.
