Valeria (Val) Velma Weiland, 88, of Rapid City, SD died Friday, December 22, 2017 peacefully at her home.
Valeria Velma Erps was born on December 13, 1929 in Scotland, SD to Emil and Mattie (Lersson) Erps. She was united in marriage to Harold Weiland on August 30, 1949 in Scotland, SD and they later resided in Rapid City, SD. The couple was blessed with four children, Greg, Deb, Nancy, and Brad.
Val's family always came first and nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by them. Bowling, card games, and Bunco were also an important part of Val's life. Val continued to bowl into her mid 80's. She had many special card friends and played numerous times a week. Val played Bunco with friends and also monthly with her family. Val was a member of Saint Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Greg Weiland of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Deb and Tim Callahan of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Nancy and Larry VanOverschelde of Letcher, SD; and son, Brad Weiland of Rapid City, SD. Ten grandchildren, Brian (Jen) Callahan, Moose (Leah) Callahan, Katie (James) Mack, Krista (Colin) Mack, Philip VanOverschelde, Lora (Lukas) VanLaecken, Anna (Joe) Sandness, Lisa VanOverschelde, Ashley (Kevin) Francis, Cody Weiland, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Val is also survived by her sister Bunny (David) Eberhardt, two sisters-in-law, Gladys Weiland and Marie Ulmer and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold and two sisters, Norma Jonas and Leota Brownson.
Visitation will be held at 5:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Thursday, December 28 at Saint Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Saint Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
