Obituary

RAPID CITY--Vera A. Vice, 77, Rapid City, and formerly of Kadoka and Interior, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her home in Rapid City. Vera Hamm was born Sept. 1, 1930 at home, south of Quinn, the daughter of Ransom Wellington and Amy (Johnson) Hamm. She was united in marriage to Wayne D. Vice, on September 1, 1947, and they made their home in Interior. Over the years, she was involved in numerous church, school and community activities, raised her family and helped with the family business, Vice Oil in Kadoka. In the 1970s they moved to Kadoka and when Wayne died in 1988, she ran the business. In 2000, she sold Vice Oil and moved to Rapid City. She enjoyed her family and considered herself a second mom to many. Vera also loved baseball, especially the Yankees. Survivors include a daughter; Cheryl Anderson and her husband, Malon, Fort Pierre; two sons, Charles Vice and his wife Glenda, Rapid City and Curtis Vice and his fiance Misty, Rapid City; a sister, Lelia Olson, Eatonville, WA; 4 grandchildren, a great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne, brothers, Lloyd Hamm and John Hamm and a sister, Helen Alexander. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, at Calvary Lutheran Church, in Rapid City, with Pastor Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Burial will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Memorial gifts may be given to the Interior Presbyterian Church or Calvary Lutheran Church. Service arrangements are with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City.
