Verlyn Joyce Brents, 77, died Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Monument Health – Rapid City Hospital. She was born on Sunday, May 4, 1947, in Burke, South Dakota to Albert and Emma (Steckman) Lafave. Verlyn moved to Rapid City as a young woman and was a serial entrepreneur, starting and running multiple businesses. She also enjoyed the years she spent as an antique dealer.

On October 27, 1990, she married Jimmie Brents whom she met while managing her video store on Ellsworth Air Force Base. Together they shared almost 34 years of marriage.

Verlyn will always be remembered as a woman who dearly loved her family.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie Brents, children: Jason Orelup (Kris), Todd Orelup, James Brents, Robert Brents (Deanne), Shawn Brents, Chad Brents (Ali), Sarah Brents (Brian) along with twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Verlyn was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024 to be held at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
