Obituary

BOX ELDER--Vern Kienzle, 69, of Box Elder, passed away on Wednesday December 9,2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House. Vern was born May 9, 1940, to John and Emma Kienzle in Mobridge, South Dakota. He grew up in Isabel and later moved back to Mobridge. He worked at several different construction projects including helping to build the First National Bank and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. In 1959 he married Janice Faye Kienzle, and to this union 10 children were born. The couple moved to the Black Hills in 1961 and made there home in Black Hawk. Vern worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for Sheehan Equipment, H.W. Moore and the South Dakota Cement Plant, where he was shop supervisor until his retirement in 1995 due to injuries received from a car accident. In 1990 he married his guardian angel Eileen. With this marriage three stepchildren were added to his family. In 1997 the couple purchased Paradise Park Mobile Home Park, where the couple put in many long hours cleaning and fixing up homes for people to rent. Vern loved to build things and was a skilled carpenter, welder and mechanic. One of his favorite projects was his homemade trike. He called it Grandpas Toy he rode and displayed it proudly at the Sturgis Rally and many parades were he won several trophies and plaques for his trike. Vern was very community and family oriented he was in the Sturgis J.C.S, the Black Hawk Fire Department, were he was Fire Chief for 13 years, an EMT, a big part of the Black Hawk Centennial, coached baseball, helped with girl scouts, played Santa Claus for several different organizations and families and was Mayor of Box Elder from 2002 2004, when he was very instrumental in getting the new by-pass put in. Vern loved music, he never had any lessons but he could listen to a song then play it on his guitar as well as sing it. He also wrote several songs and even recorded one at Barbara Mandrells studio. He liked to go camping, fishing, hunting and could often be found on Wednesday nights at the auction. Vern Loved his family he always taught them to put forth their best effort at everything they did. He was always willing to help others. He will sadly missed by his family. We Love you Dad. Survivors include his wife Eileen Kienzle, Box Elder; four sons, Vernon Kienzle, of Rapid City, Rocky (RoxAnn) Kienzle, of Black Hawk, William (Valerie) Kienzle, of Loveland Colorado and Dallas Stensaas, Alta Springs, Florida; five daughters, June (Larry) Neiger, of Bayard Nebraska, Brenda (Tim) Hutchinson, and Wanda Pulfrey, of Rapid City, Debbie Embree, of Black Hawk Janet (Randy) Sheffer, of Box Elder and Darla (Andy) Coffey. of Madison; three step-children, Terry (Tammie) Florentz, of Pierre, Kim (John) Aman and Cindy (Jim) Ackerman, of Rapid City; 32 grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Tony (Virginia) Kienzle, of Silverdale, Washington, Wilbert Kienzle and Jerry (Bessie) Kienzle, of Sturgis and 3 sisters, Lorraine (Stanley) Teller, of Piedmont, Lila Martel Anita (Garret) Van Vugt, of Mobridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Kienzle, two brothers, Ervin Kienzle and Raymond Kienzle; a sister Delores Kienzle and three great-grandsons. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Dec.11, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Keith Garness officiating. Burial will be at the Black Hawk Cemetery.
