Verna Elizabeth McMillan, 95, died Monday, September 12, 2011, in Denver, CO. Verna was born November 26, 1915 in Ludlow, SD, to Gideon & Inga Glendinning. In 1920 the family moved to Buffalo. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1933. In the fall of 1934, Verna enrolled in a two year course at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating, Verna returned to Buffalo where she worked in the AAA Insurance Office. In 1943, she left Buffalo and ventured to Mora, MN where she worked a short time for another AAA Insurance office. In October of 1944, Verna & her sister Venoy went by train to Washington D.C. There they worked as civilians for the U.S. Navy. In October of 1945, Verna moved to Rapid City. On November 26, 1952, Verna married James W. McMillan. She worked at Rushmore Mutual Insurance Company from January 1955 to October 1980. At that time she retired to take care of her mother. Verna made Colorado her home from Jan 2007until her passing. Verna is survived by four Nieces & two Nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Inga & Gideon Glendinning, her husband James McMillan, and her two sisters, Vivian Bourne & Venoy Sougstad. Services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, September 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
