Vernal "Vern" Leon Tolle was born March 2, 1935, Shattuck, Oklahoma, and died February 18, 2025, at 89 years of age in Rapid City, South Dakota.
He retired from the Post Office and worked at H & R Block and Sears. He was an Army Veteran. He lived most of his life in Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Texas. Vernal married Virginia Lawrence in 1954, and later they were divorced. They were remarried in June 2024. Vernal was a math savant and enjoyed math puzzles. He loved gardening and growing fruit trees. He also loved playing cards, dancing, and bowling.
Vernal Tolle is survived by his brothers, William Tolle, Kenneth Tolle, Irvin Tolle, and one sister, Leota Cinnamon, wife, Virginia Lawrence, biological children, Linda Herzberg, Vernaline Gogue, Vernal Wright, (Valerie Virchow) and Paul Lawrence (Victoria Lawrence), a step-son Glen Tullous, grandchildren, Janet Callahan, John Herzberg, Jennifer Gogue, Joseph Gogue, Jeff Gogue, Hillary Knutson, Michael Herzberg, Jared Lawrence, and Bailey Lawrence, Jack Tullous (Laureen Tullous), Lucas Tullous, Trey Tullous, Trent Tullous-Fite, Tucker Tullous, great-grandchildren, Saharrah Gogue, Cela Gogue-Morakinyo, Sekou Gogue, Simeon Baka, Sabine Baka, Francesca Gogue-Marakinyo, Amaya Gogue, Josiah Gogue, Jonah Gogue, Lila Gogue, Beau Freese, Aidan Gogue, Carly Gogue, Alex Callahan, Bethany Callahan, Mckenna Rimel, Maddox Rimel, Cara Knutson, Conner Knutson, Carter Tullous-Fite, Corban Tullous-Fite, Caleb Tullous-Fite, Molly Tullous, Landon Tullous, Truly Tullous, and Penelope Tullous, Raine Bierman, Zayden Tullous, and one great-great grandchild, Lake Freese Vernal Tolle was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cecil Tolle, brothers, Walter Tolle, Allen Tolle, Leo Tolle, former wife, Margaret Tolle, step-daughter, Debbie Tullous, and grand-daughter, Joline Gogue.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 25 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 717 Quincy Street, Rapid City, South Dakota. Burial will follow the service at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
