Rapid City - Vernon Alfred Kroeger, 93, Rapid City, died Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House in Rapid City. He was born July 4, 1922 in Willmar, Minnesota to parents, Alfred and Genevieve [Rodawald] Kroeger. He was one of 9 siblings. As a young man he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country during World War II. After he returned from his naval service, he met his future wife, Irma, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They married June 6, 1946. In 1960 they moved to Rapid City, SD, to raise their family. He spent most of his adult life working in the heating and air-conditioning business. Vernon was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church and his faith in God was very important to him and his family. He enjoyed working in his yard and gardens, going fishing whenever he could, and spending time with his family. Words can never express the deep love that Vernon had for his wife and family and the love his family had for him. He is survived by his 5 children: Ron (Nancy) Kroeger of Rapid City, SD; Steve (Sandi) Kroeger of Madison Lake, MN; Dwayne Kroeger of Rapid City, SD; Diane (Bob) Viken of Rapid City, SD; Lori (Mark) Rundell of Black Hawk, SD. He is survived also by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Irma on August 1, 2003, parents, and 9 siblings. His memorial service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, 4550 South Highway 16 in Rapid City with Rev. Paul Winkler and Rev. David Schwan officiating. Inurnment will be at 1:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors.
