Rapid City- Viola Margaret Ebel, 86, died Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Westhills Village in Rapid City.

Viola was born in Sturgis, SD to Frank and Mabel Baldwin on July 14th 1938.  She went to grade school and middle school in Sturgis.  She married LeRoy H. Ebel on October 25th 1958, in Sturgis SD and celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Early in her career Viola worked as a nanny to several affluent families in the Black Hills, eventually she went to work at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood SD serving as the activities director for the residents.  In addition, she worked alongside her husband on the family farm South of New Underwood and the family rental business in Box Elder.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter:  Harold (Marilyn) Ebel of Rapid City and their three children: Joshua, Sandell and Jonathan; son Gary (Laura) Ebel of Goodyear, AZ and their two children Cody and Matthew; son Hubert "Herb" (Shelley) Ebel of Rapid City, and their two children Mason and Chelsea;  daughter Peggy Kotnour (Tim, deceased) of Rapid City, and their three children,  Dylan, Tyler, and Alyciea; and ten great grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Ebel, her parents, one brother, two sisters and two grandsons.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday October 15th at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday October 16th at the Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.  Reception to follow.
