Obituary

Virginia Elaine Ewing went to her eternal home after suffering a stroke six days after her 90th birthday. She will be incredibly missed by all her family and friends.

Elaine was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Appleton, MN, to Elmer and Virginia Fitzgerald. She, her parents and sister "Pinkey" lived in Rapid City, then relocated to Lead, where Elmer worked for the Homestake Mine. The girls loved living in Lead. They made many friends, built memories and learned to ice skate — a lifelong joy.

During the war years they lived in Panama for a short time, then moved to Portland, OR, to work in the shipyards. After high school, Elaine got her nursing degree from St. John's Nursing School in Rapid City. She and a group of nurses moved to Denver, where she met and later married Eugene "Fuzz" Ewing in May 1950. Rapid City became their home where they raised their five children.

Elaine worked many years for Rapid City Medical Center, most spent as Dr. Loos' nurse. She will always be remembered for her heart of mercy, gift of hospitality, knowledge base of sports, her faith, and her playful spirit, which she loved to share with her 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister; her son, Dick; and her husband, "Fuzz."

She is survived by her children, Marci (Harry) Maddux, Bill (Nancy) Ewing, Joe (Diane) Ewing, and Mary (Bobby) Mitchell; her grandchildren, Jesse (Janie) Ewing, Nic (Sherri) Ewing, Kyle (Kori) Ewing, Brock (Kristine) Ewing, Nicolette (Tad) Roccaro, Nia (Levi) Amerine, Graham Ewing, and Blake, Ian, and Jillian Mitchell; and her special great-grandchildren, Cali, Natalie, Griffin and Brogan Ewing. Maeve, Brooklyn, Cale and Camden Ewing. Ava and Elijah Ewing, Grayson Ewing, Jabez and Jody Roccaro, and Theroux Amerine.

Visitation, with family present begins at 6 p.m., with a wake of sharing at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Blessed Sacrament Church.

A memorial has been established in Elaine's name at Christian Life Ministries, 1948 N. Plaza Drive, Rapid City, SD, where she served after retiring from nursing.

"What her faith told her was true, her sight now sees!"
