RAPID CITY- Virginia May Green passed away Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at the age of 93 years.
Virginia was born in Pierre, South Dakota, on July 3, 1925 to Emil and Olive (Beckner) Ziesman. They lived on a farm near the small town of Okobojo, where Virginia attended elementary school. She attended high school first in Pierre and then in Onida, graduating in 1943.
Virginia's first job was at the Onida bank. She worked there for a year and a half, then went with a friend to Hastings, Nebraska, where they found work at a Naval ammunition depot, making 40 mm shells for the Navy. Later, she went to Seattle, Washington, where she took a position at Boeing Aircraft. After the war, she returned to her work at the bank in Onida until she met and married Maynard Green on January 12, 1947.
Virginia and Maynard lived and worked on his parents' farm. After the death of the elder Greens, Virginia and Maynard remained on the farm until moving to the Black Hills, near Pactola in 1978. They traveled extensively and enjoyed family and friends there for 22 years, before moving to Rapid City in 2000. Maynard passed away in 2005 and Virginia remained in Rapid City.
Virginia was active in various clubs both in Onida and the Black Hills. She was a member of the Onida Presbyterian Church, serving as a Trustee and Deaconess as well as Treasurer. After moving to the Black Hills, Virginia became a mainstay at the Big Bend Presbyterian Church, where she served as Treasurer and Elder, as well as a faithful member of the choir.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, step-father Jeff Clouse, and sister Joanne Perino. She is survived by her sister Myriam Ingulsrud and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
