VIRGINIA MAY (Billeter) WINTER September 18, 1939 – February 2, 2025. She was born in Rushville, NE to Boyd Leonard and Gladys Arilla (Young) Billeter. She was raised on a farm northwest of Gordon, NE in the Mt. Pleasant community where she attended grade school and then attended Gordon High School.
She attended National Business College in Rapid City, SD where she graduated with a business degree. She worked numerous positions, the latter at CAW Industries, Inc. from 1989 to 2003 when she retired. Virginia and her husband Jim also worked for her son's auction company, Messner Auctions, for many years.
She married Harold E. Messner in 1958 and two children were born, Gary Edward Messner and Donna Marie Messner.
Virginia was united in marriage to Charles "Jim" Winter, May 11, 1996, in Rapid City, SD where they continued to share their life together.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and had previously been a Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher, she was very active in Extension Homemakers of 25 years and held numerous offices and was county officer for six years attending state meetings for nine years and numerous county meetings. She had been a leader in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, 4-H and as an officer at Canyon Lake School.
Her great love was her family, friends and loving every minute she could spend with her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Virginia leaves behind her husband, Jim Winter, son Gary and wife Lori (Ross) Messner all of Rapid City. Her Daughter Donna and husband Thomas Silvers, Maple Grove, MN. A brother Virgil Billeter, Abilene, TX and a sister, Bonnie and husband Gary Saxton, Gordon, NE, Grandchildren, Grant Edward and wife Veronica Messner, Gretchen Marie and husband Justin, and great granddaughter Garcelynn Ladenburger, Genae Linn and husband Jeremy, great granddaughter Avery and great grandson Jameson Adams all of Rapid City, SD. Brianna Jo Silvers and husband Tanner Reinhardt, Richfield, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys Billeter and Boyd Billeter, formerly of Gordon, NE and sister-in-law Janice Billeter formerly of Abilene, TX.
Services for Virginia Winter will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bob Jacobs officiating. There will be a light lunch served after the service. Interment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park after lunch. A memorial will be established for the Monument Health Hospice House.
