Obituary

Vivian L. Goodrich, 84, died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Clarkson Health Care in Rapid City, SD. She was born on June 28, 1927 in Troy, Iowa to Harold and Lena McMickle. She lived most of her life in Chadron, Nebraska where she owned and helped manage the Blaine Hotel. She also worked in Chadron dress shops as a seamstress and salesperson. Vivian was an excellent quilter who won many awards. Vivian married Glenn L. Goodrich in Chadron on October 12, 1946. His sense of humor and her cooking skills made them popular hosts. Community leaders, friends and those without family close by were invited to holiday dinners. Glenn and Vivian were active in the American Legion. They spent many hours on Thursdays helping with Legion fundraising dinners. Vivian is survived by her daughter: Connie (Craig) Madson, Lincoln, NE; and her son: Dr. Robert (Jan) Goodrich, Spearfish, SD; five grandchildren: Marti (Scott) Benson, Chad Madson, Ben (Leticia) Goodrich, Mike (Jamie) Goodrich, and Becky Goodrich; four great-grandchildren and Vivians sister: Vonnie Dahlgren of Cozad, NE also survive. Preceding her in death was her husband: Glenn Goodrich and one brother: Howard McMickle. A private, family service will be held this week at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City, SD with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Vivian will be buried next to her husband at Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis, South Dakota. A memorial has been established to the Chadron American Legion Honor Guard and Episcopal Grace Church in Chadron.
