February 13, 1962 – April 27, 2026
Wade Douglas Rasmussen, 64, passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2026 at his home in Rapid City, SD.
Wade was born on February 13, 1962, in Brookings, SD to Wayne and Glenda Rasmussen. His family moved to Detroit, MI and lived there until Wade entered 6th grade. He spent the remainder of his childhood in Brandon, SD. He attended Brandon Valley High School where he was quarterback and defensive back for the varsity football team that won the 1979 State Championship. He was later inducted into the Brandon Valley Hall of Fame for his achievements. Wade graduated from Brandon Valley in 1980.
Wade attended college at South Dakota State University where he played football for the Jackrabbits. He graduated from SDSU in 1984 with a degree in economics. Wade’s career revolved around customer service management where he enjoyed working with people.
In 1988, Wade welcomed his daughter into the world and then his son in 1991. Wade was proud to be a dad and enjoyed attending his children’s activities throughout the years. Wade had a love for attending sporting events and was a big Chicago Cubs, Sioux Falls Stampede, and Detroit Lions fan. His favorite moments were hunting with his golden retrievers Mick, Sandy and Bella and fishing with family. He loved cuddling his boxer Bilbo and cat Trixie, being on a boat, walking through a slough, being in a duck blind, or sitting in a tree stand. He leaves behind a legacy of enthusiasm for the outdoors and animals to his children and grandchildren.
Wade is survived by his two children Sarah (Jake) Gullickson of Meridian, ID and Taylor (Kristin) Rasmussen of Northfield, MN, 6 grandchildren Hadley, Huxton, Parker, Hatcher, Harper, and Avery: as well as his parents Wayne and Glenda Rasmussen and his two brothers’ families. Preceded in death by his grandparents.
