Obituary

Wayne Luxem, 53, Rapid City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.

Wayne was born Feb. 6, 1970, in Santa Ana, Calif. He lived with his notorious family in Box Elder and attended Douglas schools. He met Carina Tyler in high school and together they created a family with Kasey in 1988 and Emily in 1992. Wayne married Dana Peterson in 1997 and they moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he attended Arizona State University and studied Accounting and Psychology. His family expanded with the birth of daughter Nicole in 1997.

Wayne wore many hats and worked many jobs such as accounting for Charles Schwab, as a Crew Line Adjuster for Mesa Air Group and in Quality Control for Bodē Pro, all in Scottsdale.

Working for Mesa airlines enabled him to travel. He especially loved the Hawaiian islands where he vacationed with each one of his kids and lived for a time.

Locally, he worked for the South Dakota Cement Plant and bartended at several establishments including the Stampede where he drew a following of customers known as The Wayniacs every week for Wayno Wednesday.

Wayne was a fun and easygoing, affable character who loved and laughed his way through life. He was a wonderful person, an especially loving Dad as well as an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He will be forever loved and missed by his parents David and Cindy Luxem; children Kasey Luxem and Emily Luxem, and their mother Carina, and Nicole Luxem and her mother Dana; grandsons Benjamin Luxem and Jackson Luxem; brother Jason Luxem; sister Michelle Luxem; niece Emerson Bennington; nephew Declan Bennington; uncles Tom Luxem and John Luxem; aunts Kelli Luxem, Deb Luxem and Jane Girard; cousins Lisa Luxem, Lana Luxem, Mike Luxem, Vince Luxem, Amy Nolz, Tammi Sisco, Cody Thomson, Reed Overfelt, Kent Overfelt and Brinda Kostro; grandmother Allyce Overfelt, and the Huling family.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Clare Overfelt, grandmother Muriel Luxem and uncle Larry Luxem.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Kelly's Sports Lounge, Rapid City.

Cremains are interred at Pine Lawn Cemetery.
