Wendline John Ehli, age 90, of Rapid City, died Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Corsica, SD. Wendline was born August 15, 1925 in Dupree, SD to John J. and Rosalia (Hager) Ehli. He grew up in Eagle Butte where the family ranched. Wendline moved away as a young man and lived in Washington state for a short few years. He then moved back to South Dakota and started his life here again. Wendline married Agnes Smith on October 21, 1946 at Christ Episcopal Church in Lead where they both lived at the time. They returned to Rapid City where he worked in Civil Service at Ellsworth Air Force Base as a boiler maker for a few years. He then went to work for Stanley Johnson Construction where he worked until he retired. While there, he became an expert concrete finisher as well as doing general construction with the company. He assisted with many major projects in this community such as the bike path, West Chicago Blvd and Interstate 90 in the Rapid City area, just to name a few. Wendline enjoyed traveling with Agnes in his later years. They were able to go south to Texas several times over the years and took a three month trip to Alaska where they traveled the whole state. He enjoyed wood working very much and built cedar chests for almost all the girls. He also made china closets, cradles for new babies in our family, built different kinds and sizes of desks, made rocking goose chairs and cornices for windows. Survivors include his son, Bill (Kathy) Ehli, Danbury, CT, his daughter, Linda (Jim) Hayward, Rapid City, three foster children; Chuck (Starla) Bilek, Clinton, IA, Marilyn (Miles) Stomberg and Cindy (Don) Pleau, all of Hugo, MN, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, his sisters; Barbara Bringman, Sioux Falls, Carol Rioux, Baker, OR and Anne Flatman, Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his son, Lee in 1968, his wife Agnes in 2011, his father in 1968, his mother in 1988, four sisters; Katie, Angie, Regina, Phylis and great granddaughter, Mackenzie Mackie over the past two decades. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 5:00pm until 7:00PM at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, Sept. 26 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rapid City with Canon David Seger officiating. Interment will be in Mt View Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
