Wes was born on Jun 13, 1935, DeSmet, SD. He started out on the farm and eventually moved into the Laura Ingalls Wilder House, located in DeSmet. He graduated from DeSmet High School and lettered in several sports, playing baseball, football, basketball and running track. Wes served nine years in the SD Army National Guard from 1953 to 1962. On December 28, 1960, Wes married Evelyn (Evie) Stembaugh and they shared sixty years of adventure together. He spent the first half of his career as a milkman at Brown Swiss Dairy and then moved onto sales at Amcon Distributing. He finished up his work-life mowing the golf course at Meadowbrook. Wes loved fishing, hunting, bowling and playing golf. He scored a hole-in-one at Meadowbrook on September 28, 2012, at the age of 77. It was on hole #2, 163 yards, using a 7 wood. He was proud of his garden as well as his yard, and kept all of the birds well fed. He appreciated his wonderful neighbors and great friends as well as his nieces and nephews. Most of all, Wes cherished his grandchildren.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie and Merle, three brothers, Tom, Mick and Les and his beloved wife Evie.
He is survived by his two sons, Todd McCaskell of Pierre, SD and Brad (Tanya) McCaskell of Rapid City. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Joshua (Michaela), Ryan (Leah), Kayla, Conner, Cayne, Carson, Colton and Coby as well as six great-grandchildren, Rohan, Aryia, Elijah, Ethan, Sophia and Natalie.
The family of Wes McCaskell would like to extend a special thank you to the Peaceful Pines Senior Living Community for the loving and gentle care of our dad and grandpa during the past two and a half years.
