Obituary

GILLETTE, WY--William Bill Edwin Oldfield, 66, Gillette died Sunday, June 21, 2009, Fathers Day, at the Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital. He was born in New Underwood to Loretta (Colling) and Howard Oldfield on July 8, 1942. He grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School. then enlisted with the US Navy in 1963 and served until 1967. While he was enlisted in the navy, he earned several medals. He met and married a wonderful woman, Jan Oldfield. They moved to Coronado, CA and had two daughters, Carol Friend and Karen Steen. They owned several business and properties in San Diego and Coronado. He owned the Magic Lounge and particularly enjoyed performing magic. He acquired the nickname Wireman because of his love for electronics. He met Kathryn Stallings, who had three children, Christine, Cliff and Ronnie Stallings. They moved to Rapid City and were married in the late 1970s. Bill was one of a kind. He touched many peoples lives. He was a very gentle man who always had words of wisdom for everyone. All who knew him say he was the most selfless and humble man. He always had other peoples interests at heart. Survivors include his 5 children, Carol Friend of Rapid City, Karen Steen, St. Petersburg, FL, Christine Stallings, Rapid City, Cliff Stallings, Gillette and Ronnie Stallings, Gillette; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Delbert and Donald, a sister, Joann Hilton, his niece Pam and a nephew Mark Albrecht. Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, from 10 to 11am at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will follow at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Dan Juelfs officiating. Military honors will be provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the SD National Guard. A picnic will be held in his honor at Canyon Lake Park following the service. A memorial has been established and a donation will be made in his honor to the American Lung Association.
