CANISTOTA- William D. "Bill" Dittmer, 84, longtime Rapid City resident, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Good Samaritan-Canistota Care Center. Bill was born June 7, 1931 in Kearney, NE to Russell and Dorothy (Huffman) Dittmer. Bill enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in March 1948 during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in March 1952. After returning from the military, Bill earned his GED. He drove a freight truck for Gates Rubber Co. & Auto Transport and also worked as a salesman. Bill was a talented musician who could play any instrument. He shared his love of music with everyone he met. He was a very kind and loving man who loved children and his family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Vivian (Flaig) Dittmer; Rapid City; daughters: Theresa Nelson, CO; Janette (Warren) Chalmers, FL; siblings: Jerry Dittmer; Nancy Thomas; Phyllis Uland, all of CO; grandson, Jacob Wermer and great grandson, Logan Wermer, both of CO; step daughter: Terry Brouillette; step grandchildren: Michael Brouillette and Eric (Britney) Brouillette; and step great grandson, Tanner Wright, all of Rapid City. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 24, at First Congregational Church in Rapid City with Rev. Ted Huffman officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard. A memorial has been established to Asera Hospice out of Sioux Falls.
