RAPID CITY- William "Bill" Gillies, 83, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his home in Rapid City. Bill was born on August 2, 1929 in Boneita Springs, South Dakota to John and Edna "Pearl" (Chamberlain) Gillies. Bill grew up in Haydraw, SD and attended school in New Underwood. Bill joined the service as a young man and achieved the status of a Staff Sgt. in the Marine Corps. Bills favorite pastime was working and visiting. Grateful to have shared his life is his wife, Phyllis Gillies, Rapid City; a daughter, Cheryl (Jeffrey) Johnson, Rapid City; a son, Daryl Gillies, Rapid City; and stepdaughters Sue Kyzer, Estelline, and Lea Carabello, Redlands, Calif; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters Lillian (Francis) Misar; and Ella (Bill) Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Howard and Bryce Gillies. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, March 25th, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27th at Rockerville Cemetery.
