William Ray "Bill" Van Houten died April 3, 2013 at his home in Strasburg, Colorado. He was 64 years old. Bill was born November 29, 1948 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He grew up in Rapid City, SD where he graduated from Rapid City High School in 1967. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for one year. He worked for the Van Houten family owned Rapid Construction Company from 1972-1975. He established, owned, and operated Rapid Custom Cycle from 1975-1984. He subsequently moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he began a nearly three decade long career with Peter Keiwit Sons Construction. His career with Kiewit started with heavy equipment operation and ended with distinguished service in safety compliance. Bill was passionate about the Black Hills motorcycle community, rarely missing the Sturgis Rally. He enjoyed the Good Guys Auto Show and the Mile High Races annually with cousin Steve. As with all Van Houten's, Bill was a collectorof tools, motorcycles and their parts, motorcycle armor and boots, t-shirts, exercise equipment, and countless hotrod and motorcycle magazines. Bill is survived by cousin and best friend, Steve Van Houten, Rapid City and by brother, Bob (Joan) Van Houten, Rapid City. Also by sister Deb Van Houten of Colorado Springs, nieces Clarity and Jillian Sayre and Alexis and Micaela Worcester and Renee Crane, and nephews Josh Edwards and Robert Crane. His beloved dog Mia is at home with Schatzie and Sadie at Steve's home in Rapid Valley. A memorial service and reception will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at The Stage Stop Reception (Ramada), 7900 Stage Stop Road, I-90 at exit 48-Stage Stop Road, Rapid City, SD, 57718.
