Obituary

Rapid City – William "Bill" Jones, 75, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Health Home Plus Hospice.

William Walter Jones (Bill) was born on June 28, 1943, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He attended grades one through six at the Foreign School in Chuquicamata, Chile. His family moved back to the States when he was twelve. He attended St. Jude's Catholic School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Two years later, the family moved to Lead, South Dakota, where he graduated from Lead High School in 1962. He lettered in football and wrestling and wrote a sports column, the Billboard, for the school paper. He attended Black Hills State College graduating with a degree in Education. He moved to Pierre, South Dakota, and taught at Riggs High School. On March 25, 1967, he married Pauline Louise Capp. In 1968, they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Bill taught and directed the drama program at Nicolet High School. In 1970-71, Bill attended Northern State and graduated with a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling.

In 1971, Bill began his career at the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota. While there, he served in several positions, including the Director of Financial Aid, Registrar and Director of Academic and Enrollment Services. In 2005, he retired from SD Mines after 34 years of service.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pauline Louise Jones (Capp) and their three children and spouses: William Paul Jones (Cammi) of Atlanta, GA, Michelle Marie Mansfield (Aaron) of Belvidere, SD, and Brett Thomas Jones (Meghan) of Superior, WI. He also leaves behind twelve beautiful grandchildren: Aidan, Warner, Emma, Tyrel, Lawson, Gianna, Munch, Veronica, Felicity, Marcie, Isabella, and Ephream. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sommerville Jones and Mary R. Jones.

A memorial scholarship fund (Jones Scholarship) has been established to benefit students at SD Mines. Bill will always be remembered for his service to others, his dedication to his family, and his steadfast devotion to Christ. He was a blessing to all who met him.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, October 19 with a Wake Service at 7:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Christian Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Saturday, October 20 at Blessed Sacrament Church and burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
