Obituary

RAPID CITY | William "Bill" Murner, 87, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born June 28, 1928, on a ranch in Sturgis to Melvin and Cathern Murner.

On Oct. 23, 1948, he married Jo Rounds and they made their home in Rapid City until 1977, when they moved to Custer. This union was blessed with four children.

Bill liked all aspects of cars. After working many different positions in the car industry, he realized his dream of owning a Chevrolet dealership, and did so until 2010.

Bill's hobbies included restoring old cars, and attending and working in the pits at Black Hills Speedway. He was a very active member of the NAJA Shrine Temple. One of his favorite pastimes was to spend the weekends at Sheridan Lake camping, waterskiing and boating. When Bill and Jo retired they spent a lot of their time traveling and in the winters they packed up the camper and headed south.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jenn Olson.

Survivors include their sons, William "Bill" and wife Pat Murner of Custer, and David and wife Colette Murner of Rapid City; daughters, Lorri and husband Ernie Schleuning of Rapid City, and Kimmie and husband Brent May of Indianola NE; 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his siblings, Marie (Jim) Casselman of Portland OR, Butch (Marie) Murner of Rapid City, and Jerry (Sheri) Murner of Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeff Wulf officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift can be given for the travel fund at NAJA Temple for families traveling to the Shrine Hospital.
