IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
Singer Jr.
January 24, 1942 – October 5, 2025
William "Bill" Singer Jr., 83, of Rapid City, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025.
Bill was born on January 24, 1942, in Artas, South Dakota to William 'Bill' and Bertha (Quenzer) Singer. He went to Country School and Eureka High School. In 1961, he moved to Rapid City, where he married the love of his life, Dianna. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing 64 years of marriage, raising three children, and creating countless memories.
Bill began his career as a mason with Barton Masonry before starting his own company, Singer Masonry, after surviving the Rapid City flood of 1972. For nearly 45 years, his craftsmanship shaped some of the area's most prominent buildings—including the church where his life is being celebrated. Known for his old-school work ethic, integrity, and handshake deals, Bill earned the trust and respect of all who worked with him. Throughout Bill's career, he amassed a total of 37 master craftsmanship awards from the City of Rapid City.
A true outdoorsman and adventurer, Bill was happiest with a shotgun, fishing pole, snowmobile, tractor, or a motorcycle. He and Dianna were longtime members of the Harley Owners Group. They traveled thousands of miles across the country on motorcycle, along with numerous cruises and adventures. Bill was also deeply involved to the Black Hills Snowmobile Club, serving as president for multiple terms, leading Governor rides, and guiding countless mountain trips before the days of GPS. He was respected as a pioneer for backcountry snowmobiling. Bill was also a lifetime member of the Rapid City Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge. He was a sponsor for the Rapid City Trap Club and an avid shooter, winning numerous competitions. His love for competition carried into tractor pulling where he enjoyed great success later in life. He always had a clever trick to gain the edge—while maintaining "stock or factory" status. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his sons, grandson, and great-grandchildren, especially chasing walleye on the Missouri River and local reservoirs.
Above all, Bill cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Dianna (Follmer); his children, Alan Singer of Rapid City, Michael (Jerene) Singer of Rapid City and Sherri Ness of Littleton, CO; his grandchildren Chris (Joleen) Singer; Kyle Singer, Amanda (Dustin) Barr; Brittany Ness and Chelsy Ness and great-grandchildren Vance "William", Olivia, and Ava Singer, Conner Barr and Bently Ness; and siblings Jane Richardson, Tom (Judy) Singer, Judy Tobin and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by William Sr. and Bertha Singer, by siblings: Darlene Diebert, Don Singer, Jerry Singer, & great grandson Ryker Ness.
Bill will be remembered as a man of integrity, hard work, and adventurous spirit. With a sharp wit, and occasional prank, Bill brought laughter wherever he went. His legacy will live on through his family and friends.
Viewing will be held at 9:00am followed by funeral service at 10:30am on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Calvary Lutheran Church 5311 Sheridan Lake Road in Rapid City, SD 57702 with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
