Dorlan was born June 8, 1927 to Louise and Fred Rathke in Dupree, South Dakota. Dorlan was preceded in death by two brothers Dewey and Bud; as well as 2 sisters Sally Ludington and Marjorie McDougal, who passed away 4/28/19.

Fitzmaurice SD Veterans Home; 2500 Minnekahta Ave. Hot Springs, SD 57747) They are a not-for-profit organization supported entirely through donations.
